Informational Event on Bond Election May 31
Shortly following Hurricane Harvey, NHA committed to collaborate with other area organizations on solutions for regional flood control. Since that time, I have been part of the creation of a formal organization, Houston Stronger, that has one simple mission – to advocate for flood and storm resiliency solutions. Members of Houston Stronger have been meeting regularly to stay informed and discuss how we can be most effective.
Behind the scenes, NHA has been working with our public officials to lend our full support for a solution. As most know by now, Harris County has called for (and the Governor has approved) a special election for August 25 for voter approval on bond funding that would provide the required local match for much-needed flood control projects. (Congress has allocated more than $141 billion to help Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and 20 other states address emergency response and resiliency expenses from storms in 2017. In order to be eligible to receive these dollars, local governments are required to provide matching funds.)
In order to help educate NHA’s members, and the community as a whole, about the upcoming referendum, under the umbrella of Houston Stronger, we are jointly hosting a free, informative event featuring our elected officials, including Judge Emmett, and Harris County Flood Control District’s Russ Poppe, among others. For more information on this event, and to register, please click here.
We hope you will join us in spreading the word about this informational session; all are invited – we hope to fill the room to capacity! Thank you for partnering with us as we work to find solutions to make our region even stronger and more resilient.
