R. Gary Montgomery PE

Gary Montgomery, President of Montgomery & Barnes, Inc. founded the company in 1996.  He has practiced civil and environmental engineering in Houston, Louisiana, and New Mexico for 35 years in the municipal, land development, and industrial business sectors. During that time, he has served as President and/or CEO of three consulting engineering firms. From 1975 to 1990, he served as President of Montgomery Engineering Company, Inc., a civil engineering consulting firm with a heavy practice in land development engineering. From 1991 to 1996, he managed the Houston office of Espey Houston & Associates, Inc., an environmental and civil engineering consulting firm with the headquarters in Austin, Texas. In 1996, he founded Montgomery & Associates, LLC, now Montgomery & Barnes, Inc.

Mr. Montgomery’s areas of project and technical expertise include water/wastewater, transportation and drainage/stormwater quality. His original expertise early in his professional career was in the design of water and wastewater treatment facilities, including tertiary treatment, effluent re-use, and removal of methane gas from a potable water source. Transportation experience includes project design and oversight of State Highway 242 in Montgomery County, Program Management of South Montgomery County Road District No. 1, which was responsible for the design and construction of the overpasses and ramps on IH-45 between FM 1488 and the Harris County line, along with 30 miles of lateral roads. Drainage and stormwater quality experience includes Project Management of the Lake Houston Watershed Study, which predicted pollutant loading on Lake Houston, and the design of a 200,000 gpm stormwater pumping station for a 10,000 acre land development in South Montgomery County.

 

Mr. Montgomery’s community involvement includes a number of significant efforts with key agencies in the Houston Metropolitan area that influence quality development in the public and private sectors. He has served on the San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) Board of Directors for 20 years, 10 years as its President. The SJRA is currently implementing a $2 billion surface water conversion program in Montgomery County. He has also served on the Greens Bayou Task Force Board of Directors (Chairman) and the Greens Bayou Corridor Coalition Board, which are promoting orderly improvements to Greens Bayou. During the early part of the past decade, Mr. Montgomery served as Chairman of the North Houston Corridor Coalition, which lobbied successfully for the Metro Light Rail proposition.

 

Currently with Montgomery & Barnes, Inc., Mr. Montgomery’s primary role is to focus on assisting new and existing clients define the feasibility of new ventures, including assisting with identifying sources of funding, and assembling professional teams to carry out the projects.
