J. R. (Bob) Jones, P.E., RPLS
Bob is Chairman of the Board for Jones & Carter, Inc., a 310-person consulting engineering firm with offices in Houston, Austin, Dallas, Brenham, Bryan, Rosenberg, San Antonio, and The Woodlands. The company provides services to a broad range of clients across the state including numerous cities and counties, 95 water districts, individuals, land developers, and the state.
His background is fairly broad across the civil engineering field. He has extensive insight into local rail, highway, and drainage issues; groundwater problems; water supply and system operations; municipal water and wastewater issues; and water district needs and finances; as well as surveying and construction issues. Bob’s primary function is the day-to-day management of Jones & Carter, Inc.
In addition to corporate management responsibilities, Bob is active with numerous local and state organizations. He is the 2009-2010 Chairman of the Board of the Texas Council of Engineering Companies, serves on the Board of Directors of the North Houston Association and the West Houston Association. He served six years on the Texas Building and Procurement Commission (2002-2007) and fourteen years on the Harris-Galveston Coastal Subsidence District (1985-1998).
He received two degrees from Texas A&M, his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in January 1970 and his master’s in Civil Engineering in December 1970.
Bob is a member of the Texas A&M Look College of Engineering Advisory Council and is an emeritus member of the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering Advisory Council. He was also honored with the Dwight Look College of Engineering Outstanding Alumni Honor Award and the Department of Civil Engineering Distinguished Graduate Award.
Bob and his wife, Georgia, have three grown children and have lived in Houston since 1971. In 1976, along with his original partner, Larry H. Carter, Bob started Jones & Carter, Inc.
